Fast 800 Diet Diary- Day One

I’m quite the expert at dieting although I’ve never tried the Fast 800 diet before. Ever since I started having children, almost two decades ago now, I’ve been varying degrees of fat. Perhaps when my children were small I was just a little chubby, but over the years the kilos have gradually piled on, until what used to be the weight I found barely acceptable when I stood on the scales, soon became my goal weight.

Now, in my late forties, I’m decidedly overweight, the scales hovering stubbornly 20kg (44 pounds or 3 st 2 pounds) or more above my pre-children weight. Not only that, but recently at a doctors appointment it was gently suggested I might be better off being a little slimmer.

So there it is. When a doctor tells you to lose weight it’s probably time to take it seriously, and that’s what I plan to do.

So why the Fast 800 diet? Mainly because I have family who have done it, and done it successfully, even reversing type 2 diabetes. If they can do it, I think I can too. Also, I really believe in the science- although more of that later.

Glass of wine in fast 800

So as a starting point for the Fast 800 day one, I weighed in at 79.8kg. I’m 173cm or 5ft8 inches so this is too big, but not dramatically so. Nonetheless, I have 20kg or 44lbs to lose to be somewhere around the middle to lower end of the normal range of BMI.

My diet starts in earnest, first thing in the morning. Meanwhile, above is my dinner, designed to get me started on the program. As well as a low calorie dinner, I had a last glass of wine. I plan to have one once a week, as a treat or reward, providing I’ve stuck to the program more or less.

I haven’t joined the 12 week Fast 800 program– I’ve heard it’s well worth it but it’s around £100 which at the moment isn’t an option for me, so for reasons of financial necessity I’m using the excellent book instead.

Wish me luck!
